5 Things I Wish I had Been Taught About my Body Composition in High School

Your girls (and maybe you) need to know this.
Things I wish I had been taught about my body composition in High School.
Eating less and starving yourself won’t give you a strong, lean body. In fact, it will do the exact opposite. Starving yourself only caused your body to cannibalize the most expensive asset you have, your muscles. Eat smart to get the gains you want! It’s not about eating less, it’s about eating the right way for your goals.
Strength training is the key to a smaller, stronger and more compact body. Strength training is the only form of exercise that raises your metabolic rate, even at rest. The more muscle you have, the more you can eat (if it’s smart), and the smaller, more compact your body will become.
Quality nutrition is the key to not only health but a lean body. We greatly overestimate the power of exercise to reshape our bodies and we underestimate nutrition. Food is 80% of the battle, eat better, not less for maximum results. Get plenty of protein (1 gram per pound of current lean muscle mass), and balance healthy fats and quality carbs.
Cardio isn’t the answer. Cardio has plenty of useful applications but it’s not the form of exercise you want to change you.
Rest is critical to adaptation and growth. You have to train, allow your body to rest so that it will be able to adapt and get stronger. You can’t see gains if you aren’t resting. Some of my most noticeable gains where I see changes in my body have come after my reload/rest days.
